Gibson Bass EB-1 Violin Bass 1953 Gibson's First Year Production EB-1 Bass in New Orleans, Louisiana For Sale

This is a first-year, all-original (except for the end strap button) xxxx Gibson EB-1. What makes this bass unique is that if you look at the rear of the headstock, you will notice that there is no serial number.

There were only 105 EB-1?s made in xxxx, and the very first models produced that year did not have a serial number. According to the folks at Gibson, this bass is one of the first EB-1?s that Gibson ever made.
As you can see from the photos, there is quite a bit of checking in the finish, but all of the wood is intact. You?d have a few dings too if you were nearly 60 years old! However, this bass plays like butter and sounds awesome. Unlike later Gibson bass models with a single humbucker pickup that sounded muddy, this one sounds rich and full.
The neck and action are perfect and there are no issues anywhere. The body and neck are mahogany. It has the original banjo tuners, chocolate brown pickup and pickguard, and brown barrel knobs. The screw-in telescoping endpin and screw-in rear strap button were missing, so I had a replica screw-in strap button fabricated and it is fitted snugly in place. The case appears to be an early 60?s Gibson guitar/bass case.
